Jamalpur boat capsize: 6 more rescued

With six more survivors rescued from Jamuna river in Jamalpur, the total number of survivors stand at 22.

A boat carrying rice for VGF programme sank in the Jamuna at 9pm Wednesday at Dewanganj upazila as it headed for Halka Haorbari char.

A rescue mission was temporarily put on hold due to inclement weather and resumed Thursday morning when the six survivors were rescued.

Locals, river police and fire services have combined their efforts in the rescue operations.

Dewanganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) MM Moinul Islam told Dhaka Tribune that at least five passengers were still missing.
