Jatiya Party (JaPa) is going to create a new post, chief patron, for party founder HM Ershad's widow Raushon Ershad in its national council on Saturday as GM Quader will remain in the post of chairman.

"As the chief patron of the party, the position of Raushon, currently the senior co-chairman, will remain above the chairman," its Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga told reporters after a meeting of the party presidium members on Friday, reports UNB.

"The main change we are going to bring is that HM Ershad's wife Raushon Ershad will act as the party's chief patron. She will be given the highest honour in the party, and at its meetings or general meetings," he said.

Quoting the party chairman, Ranga said Raushon will hold the highest position in the party.

"As long as she is alive, she will remain in the post of chief patron of the party."

He, however, said Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader will enjoy highest power in the party, and he will preside over all meetings.

Quader became the JaPa chairman after his elder brother Ershad, a former military dictator, died in July earlier this year.

Ranga said no decision of the party will be taken unilaterally from now on as the chairman together with the co-chairmen and presidium members will make the decisions.

The ninth national council of the party will start from 10am at the Engineers Institute on Saturday.
