Suspected drug trader killed in Dhaka gunfight

A suspected robber has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Malibagh Railgate area of Dhaka.

The deceased is Iqbal Ahmed. The incident occurred around 7am on Sunday.

RAB 2 Company Commander Mohammad Mohiuddin Faruki said: "The drug traders were on their way to Cox's Bazar. On information, we set a trap for them in Malibagh area. Sensing our presence, they opened fire at us, triggering a gunfight."

"Iqbal was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. His two other associates got injured in the incident."

The injured have been sent to a local hospital, the RAB official added.

RAB has also recovered around 100,000 yaba pills and a pistol from the spot.
