A fire has broken out Chalantika Jhilpar slum in Dhaka's Mirpur 7. The blaze started around 4:09am on Friday, after which 15 fire fighting units rushed to the spot.

Later, around 9:10am, firefighters managed to douse the fire,  said Lima Khanam, a duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.

"The cause of the fire, and the extent of the damage could not be known immediately," she said.

However, locals claimed over hundred houses were burnt. A woman named Parvin sustained 90% burn injuries and has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Earlier, on August 16 in 2019, a fire had gutted over a thousand shanties of the slum.
