Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has requested its members to extend the shutdown of their factories till April 11 considering the ongoing coronavirus situation in the country.
BGMEA President Rubana Huq said this on Saturday.
Earlier, a huge number of RMG factory workers were returning to Dhaka since leaving the city amid the news of garment factories being set to open on April 5.
People were seen returning on foot or using local transport amid the shutdown of the inter-district bus and train movement.
The workers claimed that they were fearful of losing their jobs if they fail to report to their workstations, so they were returning to Dhaka amid the fear of contracting coronavirus.
