The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have decided to abolish the undergraduate admission tests for D and E units held for enrolment in the university’s Social Science and Fine Arts Faculties, respectively, from the 2021-22 academic year.

Hence, the university will conduct the intake tests for three units --Science, Arts, and Business Studies-- the DU Deans’ Committee finalized in a meeting on Sunday.

However, the undergraduate-level entry tests for the forthcoming academic session at the university will be held under the existing rules.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Akhtaruzzaman, who chaired the meeting, told reporters that the decision was made keeping in mind the three core groups--- Science, Arts and Business Studies—at the higher secondary level.

“But the three units (at the university), for which the tests will be conducted, will be named later on,” he said.

The outline about the tests for the three units will be prepared after a series of discussions and examinations by the DU authorities, he added.

Saying that the move will come into effect from the 2021-2022 academic year, the DU VC revealed that there will be no intake exams for the D unit under the Social Science Faculty and E unit under Fine Arts Faculty from then on.

According to him, the move is aimed to reduce the number of honours admission tests and stress of admission-seekers.
