A Bangladeshi man was sentenced on Wednesday to six years in prison for raping a woman in the UK. The convicted man was identified as Muhib Uddin, 31.
Muhib moved to the UK in 2016 and worked at a kebab shop in Portsmouth, UK, according to media reports.
On August 29, 2020, Muhib attacked and raped a 19-year old woman in an alleyway off Clarendon Road, Southsea.
Hearing the girl’s screams, locals rushed to her aid and Muhib fled the scene.
Later, after being identified through CCTV footage, Muhib was arrested, charged and subsequently pleaded guilty to rape at Portsmouth Crown Court on November 10.
Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Emma Crute, said: “We are pleased that the victim has found justice now that Muhib is behind bars.”
According to court orders, Muhib will have to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
